Prof. Bandara Wanninayake was appointed as the New Head of the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya. The appointment letter was handed over to the Head by the Vice-chancellor, Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, on 22nd of December 2022 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. Prof. Bandara Wanninayake is a Professor in Marketing attached to the Department of Marketing Management. He holds a Ph.D. from Tomas Bata University, Czech Republic.  He is known in the industry as a veteran researcher, corporate consultant, and exceptional academic.

The Department of Marketing Management of University of Kelaniya has taken many initiatives to bridge the gap between the industry and academia. As a part of the process, on 25th of November 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Department of Marketing Management of University of Kelaniya and Unilever Sri Lanka to nurture the undergraduates while making them industry ready. As a Strategic Partner, Unilever Sri Lanka will guide and collaboratively work with the undergraduates who are following Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Marketing degree and Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Digital Marketing degree.

The inaugural ceremony of the 7th intake for the Master of Business Management in Marketing program offered by the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya, was held on 23rd October 2022 at the Kingsbury Hotel. University of Kelaniya (UoK) and Dhammika & Priscilla Perera Foundation (DP Education) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the 4th of October 2022 to facilitate open online course development and delivery in certificate-level Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The objective of this initiative is to provide opportunities to learn free of charge the required knowledge in certificate-level Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The ERP course will be created with a special focus on SAP applications and will generate jobs in seven roles, starting from the intern to associate consultants in ERP.

Flagship Programme of the Department of Marketing Management (UoK) for Sustainability and Community Services

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Kelaniya and INSEE Ecocycle Lanka (Pvt) Ltd on the 15th of September 2022 at the Senate Room of the University of Kelaniya. INSEE Ecocycle Lanka (Pvt) Ltd is a company engaged in the field of waste management and offers sustainable environmental solutions through cement kiln co-processing and other sustainable environmental services. With this MoU, INSEE Ecocycle Lanka (Pvt) Ltd came on board as a “Strategic Partner for Sustainability and Community Services” with the Department of Marketing Management (DMM) of the University of Kelaniya.

By representing the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya a team of four including Nipun Hewapathirana, Dinushie Dissanayake, Rivi Wijeratne and Asitha Fernando participated in COMFEST 2022, the Business Plan Competition organized by the Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce in India.  It is with immense pleasure we announce that this team has won the first position in the competition!

The inauguration ceremony of the higher diploma in marketing was successfully held on 21st August 2022 via zoom. As a result of realizing its social responsibility, the department of marketing management has introduced this program to its external students. Department of marketing management has figured out the potential emerging trends in the marketing profession and advancing needs of the stakeholders. The higher diploma in marketing is a qualification that emerged as a result of fulfilling the industry and academic needs.

On 7th May 2022, the inauguration ceremony of the 2nd external batch and the 7th internal batch of Diploma in ERP was held via Zoom. Diploma in ERP is offered as an online Diploma by the Department of Marketing Management (DMM), and this is the first diploma in ERP offered by a state university in the country. DMM is known for their groundbreaking initiatives in the education sector and the Diploma in ERP is one of their innovative initiatives which marks a significant contribution to the Sri Lankan economy by upskilling business professionals.

Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC comes on board as a Strategic Partner for Bachelor of Business Management (Hons) in Marketing Degree, Bachelor of Business Management (Hons) in Digital Marketing Degree including specific title named Certified Professional Marketing Graduate (CPMG) offered by the DMM. Subsequently, the MoU will enable the strategic partner to share industry expertise and knowledge among the undergraduates and provide hands-on experience by offering skill development opportunities including internships.

The certificate awarding ceremony of the Diploma in Marketing and Higher Diploma in Marketing offered by the Department of Marketing Management (DMM), University of Kelaniya was held on 20th February 2022 with the participation of Dr. P. N. D. Fernando - Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies as the Chief Guest. Both these programmes were introduced with the prime objective of providing higher educational opportunities for the students who are unable to enter state universities after their Advanced Level Examination.

The Department of Marketing Management (DMM), University of Kelaniya - Sri Lanka, signed an MoU with the Asia Pacific Institute of Digital Marketing - APIDM  on 09th  February 2022 at the University of Kelaniya. APIDM gets on board as the “Digital Insight Partner” of the DMM with this MoU. The ultimate purpose of the MoU is to publish the Digital Outlook Sri Lanka as a collaborative research project published annually. This effort serves readers to obtain an insightful piece of information about the digital behavior of Sri Lanka as an authentic research source.
