The Department of Marketing Management of the University of Kelaniya successfully organised a landmark workshop titled "Innovate and Transform: A Workshop on Design Thinking and AI with SAP" on Saturday, November 23, 2024, under the Diploma in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) program. Attracting over 150 participants from both internal and external batches, the event marked a significant milestone as the largest workshop ever conducted for the diploma program.

The inauguration ceremony of the Diploma in People Skills (DPS) Program was held on October 25, 2024, at the Auditorium, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya. The Department of Marketing Management of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies ceremoniously marked the beginning of a new academic year with the 9th Inauguration Ceremony of the Master of Business Management (MBM) in Marketing on the 12th of October 2024. The prestigious event took place at the View Hall, Waters Edge Hotel, Battaramulla, and was attended by a distinguished gathering of academics, industry leaders, students, and well-wishers. The event commenced with a warm and eloquent welcome address delivered by Dr. Sugeeth Patabandige, Head of the Department of Marketing Management. Dr. Patabandige emphasized the pivotal role that the MBM program plays in shaping future leaders in the field of marketing and underscored the department’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and professional development.

The 15th inauguration ceremony of the Higher Diploma in Marketing was successfully held on the 28th of September 2024 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. Recognizing its social responsibility, the Department of Marketing Management introduced this programme to cater to external students. By identifying emerging trends in the marketing profession and the evolving needs of stakeholders, the Department of Marketing Management developed the Higher Diploma in Marketing. This qualification was created to bridge the gap between industry demands and academic requirements, ensuring students are equipped for the future of the marketing field.

The inauguration ceremony of the Diploma in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) 2024 batch took place at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies on April 5th, 2024, in a hybrid format. This year marked the enrollment of the 4th external batch and the 9th internal batch of the Diploma in ERP, with over 200 participants joining both physically and via Zoom. The Diploma in ERP is a flagship offering of the ERP Learning Hub within the Department of Marketing.

In a groundbreaking collaboration between the Department of Marketing Management at the University of Kelaniya and Daraz, a prominent name in the corporate world, a transformative initiative has been taken to empower the next generation of leaders in the dynamic realm of E-commerce and digital marketing. The collaborative program, initiated in August and driven by the Talent Acquisition Team of Daraz, aimed at bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry demands. 

The program, marked by its meticulous design and framework, included a specialized curriculum exploring the world of e-business and e-commerce. The programme was conducted as a four-day workshop from 16th – 19th October 2023 including informative lecture sessions, presentations, interactive activities, practical demonstrations, and field visits.

Professor Ravi Dissanayake attached to the Department of Marketing Management of the University of Kelaniya was appointed as the new director of the Staff Development Centre of the University of Kelaniya from 1st of November 2023 for three-year tenure. Professor Dissanayake was the founding coordinator of the Staff Development Unit of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies (FCMS) of the University of Kelaniya and he served as a resource person to Staff Development Activities of the University of Kelaniya

15th of November 2023 heralded a new beginning at the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya with Dr Sugeeth Patabendige taking over as the new head of the department. 

Dr Patabendige counts close to two decades in academia both as an educator and as an administrator. He is well-regarded for his innovative and inspirational teaching. Having been recognised globally by winning several accolades such as the CIMA Tutor of the Year 2009 and CIMA Star 2014 awards. As an administrator, he functioned as the founding director of the Center for International Relations at the University of Kelaniya, Coordinator of the World Bank Quality and Innovation Grant and the ERP/SAP Learning Hub at the Department of Marketing Management of the University of Kelaniya.

The 14th inauguration ceremony of the Higher Diploma in Marketing was successfully held on 22nd October 2023 at the Auditorium of Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. As a result of realizing its social responsibility, the Department of Marketing Management has introduced this program to external students.
