The Department of Marketing Management (DMM) has extended its holistic contribution to stakeholders by introducing a programme called “Diploma in Marketing”. The HDMKT has been structured now as Level 1: “Diploma in Marketing” and Level 2: “Higher Diploma in Marketing” as per the guidelines specified in Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF). Along with HDMKT, the existing Diploma in Marketing programme will be restructured to be absorbed to HDMKT in terms of curriculum and level descriptor. Furthermore, competent, and versatile teaching faculty and the infrastructure available in the faculty could facilitate the students to acquire knowledge using the latest technology coupled with the academic expertise of the staff. Hence, it is evident that DMM has the capacity to effectively execute the said Higher Diploma in Marketing programme to capitalize on the market potential whilst contributing immensely to the higher education sector of the country.

  • G.C.E A/L (Minimum 3, "S" passes in any stream )

  • Other professional qualifications (Advanced Certificate) accepted by the University Senate

Note - Applicants should provide all the certificates during the interview to prove their qualifications

Course Structure and Duration

The entire course has been structured as two levels namely; Level 1- Diploma in Marketing and Level 2- Higher Diploma in Marketing. At the successful completion of Level 1, a student is eligible to obtain the Diploma in Marketing. Completion of the Level 2 makes them eligible to be qualified a Higher Diploma in Marketing. Both programmes have been designed to execute on a semester basis. A student who completes both levels could earn 60 credits in total (see Figure 1). It has provided an opportunity for the candidates to enter Level 2 as direct entrants

Aims of the programme: Higher Diploma in Marketing

1. provide a sound theoretical knowledge essential to be a better marketing practitioner in the contemporary business atmosphere;
2. enhance the ability of managerial level decision making in respect of marketing practice;
3. inculcate the professional behaviour in students by developing their marketing ethics and practice to ensure sustainable development; and
4. provide an avenue for the diploma level qualified stakeholders to steer towards higher national level and other potential higher educational qualifications
