The Department of Marketing Management (DMM) is one of the dynamic and unique departments in the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya. The DMM initially started in 1998 as a unit under the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies and upgraded to a separate department in 2005. DMM is currently leading the Marketing Management education in Sri Lanka by offering the Bachelor of Business Management Special Degree in Marketing for its internal students while, expanding its higher educational capabilities by offering four fee levying courses ranging from diplomas to postgraduate studies to its external students. Furthermore, the adherence to Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF), ISO 9001-2015 certification and SAP University Alliance have enabled the DMM to position itself as a sought-after executive educator with a focus on marketing management discipline.

As a Department, we aspire to transform an undergraduate to a strategist through offering a comprehensive study program along with two tailor made diplomas (Diploma in People Skills and Diploma in Enterprise Resource Planning) with the focus of developing the hard and the soft skills of undergraduates. This innovative step has enabled the DMM to produce readily employable marketing graduates with the title of CPMG (Certified Professional Marketing Graduate) who are equipped with the right mind set and proper skills. Furthermore, the Future Marketers’ Association which is the official student body of the DMM undergraduates has enabled our undergraduate to stand out from the rest since it provides a perfect platform to excel their leadership skills and organization capabilities.

Marketing as a field of study is much challenged in today’s context due to the growth of new channels such as social media, the use of big data and the emergence of artificial intelligence. Hence, as the next step of DMM’s evolution, the department expects to offer two new degree programs specialized in Digital Marketing and Marketing Analytics. Going forward, in accordance with the aims of the University, DMM also focuses on inculcating a strong research culture among the students and the academics staff
