
The Coaching and Mentoring Programme Launch
"Guiding one student today can shape a leader tomorrow."
The Department of Finance, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, proudly launched the Coaching and Mentoring Programme on August 5, 2025, as part of the Young Professionals Programme initiative.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Sunil Shantha Memorial Auditorium with the esteemed presence of Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Bandara Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, as the Guest of Honour. A speech was delivered by Mrs. Chamila Cooray, General Manager at Hemas COE (Pvt) Ltd, who shared valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of mentors in shaping future professionals.
The event witnessed the participation of 83 mentors from diverse industries who joined hands with the department to support this initiative. 227 first-year undergraduates from the Department of Finance and academic staff members were also in attendance, making the event a remarkable beginning to a journey of growth, guidance, and professional development.
The Coaching and Mentoring Programme marks a significant milestone in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice. With the commitment of dedicated mentors and the enthusiasm of aspiring undergraduates, this initiative is set to increase the culture of continuous learning, leadership, and professional excellence.
