Master of Human Resource Management offered by the Department of Human Resource Management of the University of Kelaniya has been taking fruitful initiatives in building strong international partnerships for its high-quality delivery. The Department of Human Resource Management of the University of Kelaniya is the pioneer in providing postgraduate HRM education in the country since 2006. It started offering the Master of HRM degrees in 2010 based on the well-developed expertise cohort since the department’s inception in 1995. The MHRM Kelaniya is designed to equip its learning partners with thorough academic knowledge and needed practical insights delivered by highly qualified academics and practitioners in the relevant fields. The blend of academia and the industry has been the successful formula of the MHRM Kelaniya, and it has added a new flavor of ‘international exposure’ to make its learning partners more competitive.
MHRM Kelaniya is composed of two years stretching throughout four semesters. The first semester is dedicated to providing foundational courses such as Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Economics, Managerial Communication, Sociology, and Psychology, etc. From the second semester to the third semester, the specialized advanced knowledge in HRM is provided while the final year is dedicated to research and project works as a means for the application of learned knowledge. At this stage, students have been provided with options for undertaking either research or skill-based projects to enhance students’ learning choices. The first year of the program is equivalent to a postgraduate diploma in HRM and those who successfully complete the second year as well can obtain the Master's qualification in HRM.
This is a two (02) year program.
The students are awarded the qualification of "Postgraduate Diploma in HRM" if they wish to discontinue the programme after the first year.

Students of the Master of Human Resource Management - MHRM - University of Kelaniya (MHRM) Batch 13 (2020 Intake) completed the course in two years successfully despite the COVID-19 pandemic, electricity and fuel crisis, economic and political instability which was in the country, without making any of them a barrier for the successful and on-time completion of the course.
They attended the ceremonial convocation held on November 21st, 2023, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
Students were very much grateful to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Deans of Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) and Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, the Deputy Registrar (DR) - FGS, DR- and the staff of the Examinations Branch, the Head of the Department of Human Resource Management, Academic and Technical Coordinators of the MHRM Programme and the office staff of the MHRM Office for the on-time completion of the course amidst the environmental uncertainties.
