The Department of Human Resource Management of the University of Kelaniya has been delivering outstanding graduates in Human Resource Management to the country aligned with the corporate sector. Having properly analyzed the potentials of emerging trends in the field of Human Resource Management, the Department of Human Resource Management has decided to offer a Diploma in Human Resource Management enriched with intellectual and professional insights.

The department intends to offer Human Resource Management related knowledge to those who wish to pursue a Human Resource career, and enhance the disciplinary knowledge in Human Resource Management to people already employed in the corporate sector. These programs will be a better foundation for Human Resource Management related advanced studies and will pave the way for career path in Human Resource Management discipline. 

Details of the Programme

The aim of the programme is to create a sound platform for all course followers to acquire knowledge in HRM with a widened competent background needed in their career prospects in facing a dynamic business environment.
The objectives of the Higher Diploma are;
  1. To offer an intellectually comprehensive preparation for careers in HRM.
  2. To develop sound theoretical knowledge in HRM.
  3. To enhance critical and analytical thinking in respect of HRM practice.
  4. To enhance the knowledge to contribute to sustainable social development through HRM ethics and practices.
At the end of the successful completion, students should be able to;
  1. demonstrate a broad range of theoretical knowledge in HRM.
  2. apply a broad range of theoretical knowledge and generic business skills into practical situations.
  3. develop analytical skills in the field of HRM in dynamic business environment.
  4. be efficient and socially responsible HRM practitioners.
  • This is a two (01) year programme.
  • The Higher Diploma in HRM offered for two (2) years consists four (4) semesters with nineteen (19) course compulsory units including zero (0) credit course unit of Business Communication.
  • Students enrolled in the programme are offered two (2) options. 
  • After completion of thirty (30) credits in the first year of the Diploma including first and second semesters, students can exit the programme with the qualification of Diploma in Human Resource Management.
  • Students can obtain a Higher Diploma in HRM by acquiring total minimum of 60 credits. 
  • Those who are successfully completed the HDHRM pragramme will be eligible to progress on to the third year of the general external degree of the University of Kelaniya.
