Geethasramaya programme was a joint effort of MBA Kelaniya Alumni Association and SLAPCO. This programme contained a couple of episodes which took place in the form of a discussion of songs selected by a prominent artist. The main objective of this programme was to contribute to the emotional wellbeing of the wider public during the difficult lockdown period following COVID-19 outbreak.

An Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year 2021  was held at the Hotel Clarion with the participation of the membership. The AGM provided an opportunity for members to receive an update on the financial performance, strategy, and future plans of the Alumni Association, and to engage in discussions with the members of the executive committee. The AGM saw the election of new office bearers for 2021-2022, approval of financial statements, and approval of other important decisions.  A factor to be highlighted here, was the segment allocated to felicitate members from the past executive committees.

An MBA Alumni Cricket Fiesta was held on 22nd of OCtober 2022 . This was  an event where alumni who have completed an MBA program came together to play the game of cricket in strengthening bonds among alumni members from different batches. Further this event provided an opportunity for former batchmates to reconnect and engage in friendly competition, while enjoying the sport of cricket.

MBA Alumni Association of University of Kelaniya embarked on a worthy cause of assisting the school children studying in Polonnaruwa / Dimbulagala/ Galeliya Primary School having a student population of 184, with learning materials. The children were aged 6 to 11 years and school has classes from grade 1 to 5.

Learning materials were donated on January 5, 2019 at the school premises with the participation of Principal Mr. Aruna Bandara, Teachers of the school, students and their parents. They were very grateful for the support given by our Association and thanked our representatives profusely. The Association is grateful to all the MBA Alumni members who volunteered to support us by sponsoring materials and funds.

The Association continually engaged with the University of Kelaniya towards the development of undergraduates and MBAs. Alumni Association took part in organizing a career guidance program called “After the University Education” for the undergraduates of University of Kelaniya in collaboration with Career Guidance Unit of the University on November 30, 2018 at Faculty of Humanities of University of Kelaniya. Core objectives of the session were to make aware of undergraduates on;

• Different possibilities of potential careers
• Having a purpose of life
• Core skills to gain an entry to private sector

Resource person was Mr. Dimuthu Ruwan Piyasena, Associate Director of AIA Sri Lanka Academy and AIA Insurance Lanka PLC. Mr. Dimuthu Ruwan Piyasena is a certified trainer and a coach and has over 20 years of experience in the fields of Marketing, Media, HR, Sales Management and Training. The program was a great success with the participation over 75 undergraduates from different faculties of University of Kelaniya. We hope that they have reap real benefit of the program after

hearing their praising words about the program. We, the Alumni Association hope to continue such programs to enhance the employability of the graduates of University of Kelaniya.

MBA Alumni Association of University of Kelaniya together with Inland Revenue department organized an awareness program on Taxation targeting the general public on September 12, 2018 at National Olympic Committee Auditorium in Colombo. The tax awareness program was themed “Badhu Apata Ratata”. Objectives of the forum were to;

• enhance the knowledge of Taxation
• motivate the community to pay taxes
• improve the brand image of MBA Kelaniya Alumni at national level
• Enable financial contributions to the Alumni fund

The topics covered include current trends and policies relevant to Tax, VAT and Withholding Taxes. Chief Guest and the Keynote speaker of the event was Hon. State Minister Dr. Harsha De Silva, Ministry of National Policy Planning and State Affairs. Hon. State Minister Mr. Eran Wickramarathne, Ministry of Finance and Mass Media, conducted a lecture on “Importance of Taxation for the country”.

A technical session was conducted by a panel of experts from The Department of Inland Revenue led by Senior Commissioner Mr. Darmadasa Rangalla. And the other members of the panel were Deputy Commissioners of the Department of Inland Revenue Mr. A. K. Hettiarachchi, Mr. S. W. Y. P. Silva and Mrs. Chinthani Gunarathne.

This program was well attended by MBA Alumni members, and current MBA students, participants from corporate and state sector organizations and academic staff from the University of Kelaniya. Over 100 participants attended the forum and the event was a tremendous success.

The project was chaired by Mr. Dharshana Maldeniya and the other members were Ms. Majula Jayathilaka, Ms, Ruchirani Kulathunga, Mr. Jude Muthugala, Mr. Thilakarathne Medagedara,      Mr. Manoj Jayawardhane and Mr. Malith Jayasinghe.

We owe a word of thanks to Mr. Darmadasa Rangalla (Senior Commissioner of Department of Inland Revenue), Prof. D. M. Semasinghe (Vice Chancellor UOK), Prof. Ariyarathne Jayamaha (Dean Faculty of Graduate Studies UOK), Dr. Narada Fernando (Dean faculty of Commerce and Management Studies UOK), Dr. Ruwan Abeysekara (MBA Coordinator) and other members of the University staff and the staff of Olympic House for the support they extended towards making the forum a success.
