In line with its vision and mission, DCFM has been offering the Master of Commerce (MCom) degree programme for over three decades. It is the only postgraduate degree programme in Commerce in Sri Lanka. The degree programme was launched in the late I980s to provide postgraduate training in the field of Commerce in Sri Lanka and is the first postgraduate programme of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies (FCMS).

The MCom programme aims to disseminate knowledge on advanced aspects of Commerce and Management through teaching and research. Over the years, the degree program has attracted employees from public institutions and private sector organizations in Sri Lanka.

The Master of Commerce degree programme at the DCFM is equivalent to SLQF 10. The SLQF states that SLOF 10 is for 'Masters with course work and research. The degree program also offers a fall-back option in the form of a 'Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce' for students who intend to exit the program after completing the course works and the course duration of four years. This shall be identified to be at SLQF level 8.
