Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Financial Engineering

The finance industry is flourishing in our country and requires professionals in risk management, financial model building, and product building. Accordingly, the department of Finance aims at training high caliber professionals, who are skillful and knowledgeable in financial engineering. The main objective of the degree programme is to equip students in financial know-how and skills as to be readily employable graduates for the areas in financial services. This will create an opportunity to cater the field of finance product development, financial model building, and risk management. Further, it opens the opportunity for students who intend to pursue careers in financial engineering sector.

An MoUs was signed between the Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya and the Acuity Knowledge Partners (Pvt)Ltd

A Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) was signed between the Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya and the Acuity Knowledge Partners (Pvt)Ltd (ACUITY) on 31st of August 2022 at the University of Kelaniya.

The objective of signing the MoU with ACUITY was to offer the “Acuity Knowledge Partners Gold Medal Award” for the most outstanding graduate who obtains the first class with the highest GPA (GPA of 3.7 and above) in B.B. Mgt. Honours in Financial Engineering Degree programme. Further, ACUITY will make an annual cash award of Rupees Thirty Thousand (Rs. 30,000) as a scholarship to the aforesaid student. ACUITY will also provide an annual cash award of Rupees Fifty Thousand (Rs. 50,000) as a reward to the winning team of the Inter-University Quiz competition of the Investment week annually conducted by the Department of Finance, as a focus of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Present at the occasion were Cadre Chair & Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Dr. Narada Fernando, Dean-Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies; Prof. Ruwan Abeysekera, Head- Department of Finance; Ms. P.W.G Madhushani, Mr. Daminda Weerasinghe and Mrs. Nethmi Herath, coordinators of the MOUs and a few academic staff members of the Department of Finance. Mr. Dinesh Warusawithana, President, Mr. Aruna Alwis, Vice President, representing the CFA Society Sri Lanka and Mr. Nuwan Jayawardana, Director, Investment Research; Ms. Manuja Gunaratna, Assistant Director, Human Resources and Mr. Rihab Fisal, Assistant Director, representing the Acuity Knowledge Partners (Pvt)Ltd, graced the event.

MoU signed between the University of Kelaniya and NDB Capital Holdings Limited, Sri Lanka

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Kelaniya and NDB Capital Holdings Limited, Sri Lanka on the 10th of August, 2023 at the Senate Room of the University of Kelaniya.

The MoU was signed with the objective of offering a number of benefits to undergraduates of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Financial Engineering and Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Finance programmes at the Department of Finance of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. The benefits of the MoU include internship opportunities, skills development and technical workshops for investment advisory/ research and contributing to the Investment Week organized by the Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya.

The event was dignified with the presence of Cadre Chair & Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Professor W. M. B. C. Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar of the University of Kelaniya, Dr. Ruwani Fernando, Head of the Department of Finance, Mr. Senaka Kakiriwaragodage, Director/ CEO - NDB Capital Holdings Limited, Ms. Prarthana Ranasinghe, Head of Human Resources - NDB Capital Holdings Limited, Mr. Isuru Somaratne, Senior Vice President - NDB Capital Holdings Limited, Ms. Suhadini Wickremasinghe, Head of Compliance - NDB Capital Holdings Limited and academic staff of the Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya.
