To meet the realities of the modern financial markets, the role of finance graduates with mastery knowledge in finance coupled with cutting-edge technological exposure is an essential prerequisite. Having identified this requirement, the Department of Finance introduced the Master of Professional Finance (MPF) programme in 2023, with a fully UpToDate syllabus subsequent to multiple reviews with an eminent panel of finance academics, industry experts and finance professional bodies.   

The objective of the MPF programme is to enhance the capacity of graduates’ professional qualifications to advance their knowledge in the areas of financial discipline, investigative skills, and other abilities that are relevant and enable them to convert into a different discipline/profession, forming the basis for academic advancement and enhancing the managerial, administrative and technological capacity. MPF is a one-year programme with a total of 30 credits including coursework and research projects and the programme is at SLQF Level 9.

A salient feature of the MPF programme is that the students who successfully complete their Trimester I of the Master of Professional Finance Programme will have a golden opportunity where there will be eligible to apply for admission with credit to the Master of Applied Finance Programme offered by the University of Waikato and their Trimester II and III can be completed at the University.

The MPF is offered by the Department of Finance, which is one of the most dynamic departments in the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. It is awarded an “A” Grade for ensuring quality. Further, the department is having the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Certification from SLSI.  The MPF teaching faculty includes highly qualified internal faculty and industry experts who will follow state-of-the-art teaching methods to deliver a phenomenal learning experience.
