Pathway agreement between the Department of Accountancy and the Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand
A pathway agreement between the Department of Accountancy (DoA), Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies and the Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology Trading as Unitec was signed on 3 rd April 2023 at the Vice-Chancellor’s of the University of Kelaniya. The agreement has three pathways for the undergraduate programs, the Higher Diploma in Business Accounting (HDBA) program and the Master of Business (MBuS), the postgraduate program of the department.
The Higher Diploma in Business Accounting (HDBA) is the diploma program offered by the Department of Accountancy. Pathway one in the above agreement offers the opportunity for HDBA students to achieve their dream of obtaining a degree from a foreign university. Accordingly, students who successfully complete HDBA with a minimum grade for the specified course units in the agreement are eligible to apply for the Unitec Bachelor of Business (Accountancy). With this HDBA has become the first Higher Diploma in Business which has been able to create a path for its students to obtain a degree from a foreign university.
The Unitec Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) offers its students many benefits including; once graduated meet the requirements to apply for the Chartered Accountant – New Zealand and CPA, internship-based learning, learning using the latest software and systems and etc. Graduates of this degree program have career options as; financial accountant, chief financial officer (CFO), management accountant, chartered accountant, taxation consultant, systems accountant, business analyst, and audit manager.
