Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Accounting Information Systems Degree Programme

The Department of Accountancy (DoA) offers Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Accounting Information Systems degree with the guiding philosophy of producing employable quality graduates that satisfy the requirements of the dynamic global business environment.  The mission of the Department is “to develop students with academic and professional competencies to the competitive global environment through its sustainable excellence in Accounting education and research, and to enhance the position as the leading center of knowledge by fostering intellectual collaborations and taking strategic initiatives”.

To support its mission, the department seeks to provide its undergraduates with unique opportunities for personal and professional development by increasing their knowledge and understanding of the world around them and by improving their Knowledge; Skills; Attitudes, Values, Professionalism And Vision for life; and Mind-set and paradigm. Further, DoA revises its curriculum periodically to comply with the rapidly changing requirements of the world and to ensure the qualification standards are meeting the future global industry requirements and stakeholder’s expectations. Further, the curriculum is designed to keep in view the increased regulatory requirements and also to raise standards of its governance in a rapidly changing technological environment.

Further strengthening the visionary thinking of DoA, it was motivated to propose the new degree programme, Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Accounting Information Systems by addressing the changing role of the accounting profession with the development of Information and Communication Technology to cater to the emerging opportunities available for DoA graduates in national and global employment.

Our intention is to provide graduates with the knowledge needed to leverage the latest information technologies to support the use of financial information in management decision-making, and to integrate financial information and internal controls into business information systems.
Accordingly, this degree programme produces a competent and ethical accounting information system graduate who possess the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and mindset that will enable them to continue to learn and adapt to change throughout their professional lives.



Graduate Profile – Bachelor of Business Management Hons in Accounting Information Systems Degree
A graduate of Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Accounting Information System is an accounting information & systems specialist who can integrate financial, non-financial information and information technology for value creation process. The graduate facilitates organizational change with analytical and conceptualizing skills to support business sustainability.

This qualification will strengthen the student’s skills, attitudes and develop research capacity to experience lifelong learning.

Subject / Theoretical Knowledge

AIS graduates of the DoA are expected to possess theoretical knowledge in business management, accounting, finance, economics, and information technology coupled with statistical and analytical knowledge.

Practical Knowledge and Application

 

AIS graduates of the DoA are expected to be able to apply theory to solve problems and make reasoned decisions. Further, the graduates are expected to possess exceptional analytical and conceptualizing skills.

Communication

 

AIS graduates of the DoA are expected to be able to receive and interpret information, express ideas meaningfully and visualize outputs of analyzed information in an understandable and effective manner.

Teamwork and Leadership

 

The graduates are expected to be able to establish a rapport and build collaborative relationships with individuals and groups as both a team leader and a team member.

They take personal responsibility and seek opportunities to work with others to advance thinking and achievement in all spheres of their lives. They possess the ability to work in project teams and take up leadership in managing the digital business transformation.

The graduates are expected to be able to provide modern and creative solutions to business problems by analyzing and interpreting data from various sources.

The graduates are expected to take initiative, assume personal responsibility and demonstrate accountability and ability to instill entrepreneurship. This is achieved through exploring new trends and opportunities in the market and bringing modern business models to capture such markets.

Information Usage and Management

 


AIS graduates of the DoA are expected to possess the ability of managing databases, using data for analysis, and predicting future business performance. Further, they are expected to retain practical knowledge and experience on subject specific accounting software and technological platforms that are being used in corporate entities to manage information to suit the responsibilities that they handle.

The graduate will be able to work in teams, give leadership, promote social engagement and act to the development of the profession. They are expected to be respectful of cultural and other forms of diversity and to embrace differences. Further the graduate should possess the ability to maintain networks within the business community and the industry and will equipped with emotional intelligence and social skills to build a friendly and encouraging work atmosphere.

Year one (I) and two (II) of B.B.Mgt Hons in Accounting Information Systems Degree are common with other two degree programmes offered by the Department of Accounatncy.

Students get the opportunity to study specialized subjects in Accounting Information Systems from Year three (III) onwards.
