What are the degree programs offered by DoA?

The department of Accountancy currently offers Bachelor of Business Management (Special) Degree in Accountancy. Also, the department is eagerly looking forward to further spread its wings by introducing following two new degree programs in 2019.

  • Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) in Auditing and Forensic Accounting

Department of Accountancy has taken an initiative to introduce this degree to address the changing needs of accounting profession in the world and to cater the emerging opportunities available in national and international employment market. The increasing demand for Auditing, Commercial and Criminal Law has greatly enhanced the Forensic Accountant’s role in the corporate sector. Therefore DoA believes that Forensic Accounting is one of the emerging disciplines to create career opportunities for the prospective future of its undergraduates.

  • Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) in Accounting Information Systems

This degree will be offered by the Department to address the changing role of the accounting profession with the development of Information Communication Technology. Adequate knowledge in identifying the requirements of accounting and business processes and capability of preparing a perfect system analysis is expected by an Accountant in the current employment market. Therefore the department has designed a hybrid degree programme which combines the knowledge of Accounting and Information Systems to address the said corporate requirement.

What is the entry requirement for the B.B.Mgt (Special) Degree in Accountancy?

Students who have passed G.C.E Advanced level examination in commerce stream and scored higher GPA with a grade above B for Accounting are eligible to be selected for the B.B.Mgt (Special) Degree in Accountancy.

In what medium/s is the B.B.Mgt (Special) Degree in Accountancy offered?

DoA offers all of its study programs in English language which is regarded as the International language of business.

Are undergraduates of DoA allowed for practical training?

Accounting undergraduates are allowed to undergo an internship program covering minimum 1000 hours from their 3rd year second semester onwards which has been embedded to the degree curriculum carrying 8 credits.

Does Bachelor of Business Management (Special) Degree in Accountancy (Offered by DoA) include a compulsory research component?


The research project / dissertation carrying 8 credits will be undertaken during the first semester in the fourth year on a topic of current interest to the accounting, finance and investment. Prior to undertaking the full research project, DoA undergraduates will engage in a poster presentation session after following the Research Methodology course unit in their third year second semester. A dissertation / research project may be subject review, a theoretical essay, a numerical project, a data-based project and a case study. Undergraduates are given an opportunity to present their paper in the research conference of the department (ICARE - International Conference for Accounting Researchers and Educators) and to publish their abstract.

MoU with Microsoft

  • This MoU facilitates DoA to have free access to Microsoft products for academic use while leading to training of teachers, industrial projects, professional training in advanced technologies, internship and free courseware for postgraduate students.

MoU with CMA – Sri Lanka

  • This MoU facilitates the designing and offering of Bachelor of Business Management (Special) Degree in Accountancy programme accredited by CMA- Sri Lanka.

MoU with Ernst & Young

  • This MoU facilitates academic and professional development of human capital, providing internship opportunities, organizing workshops for enhancing students’ soft skills and seminars for disseminating contemporary issues in Accounting and Auditing and extended support for continuous professional development.

MoU with ACCA

  • This MoU facilitates the designing and offering of Bachelor of Business Management (Special) Degree in Accountancy programme accredited by ACCA and this constitutes knowledge sharing, and permit the participation of members of ACCA and the members of UoK to take part in conferences, seminars, training programs and workshops.

MoU with CA

  • This MoU facilitates the designing and offering of Bachelor of Business Management (Special) Degree in Accountancy programme accredited by the UoKwhich will be delivered through the distance learning mode, subject to the approval of the Council of CA Sri Lanka and the Senate of UoK.

What are the other study programs offered by the DoA?

The DoA introduced the Master of Business in Accounting/Finance (1 Year) and the Master of Accounting/Finance (2 year) programme through a novel technology based teaching and learning system (Microsoft 365+ Skype for Business). Further DoA has recently introduced a Higher Diploma in Business Accounting for professionals in the field of Accountancy and Finance.

Further, the department has planned to introduce the following programs in the future
