The Department of Marketing Management (DMM), University of Kelaniya - Sri Lanka was recertified with the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) for another three years with effect from 2021.DMM was first ISO 9001:2008 QMS certified in 2014 and upgraded to the new standard in 2017. This is the first academic department of the university system to obtain ISO certification and DMM is successfully continuing its quality standards for eight (08) consecutive years which ensures the delivery of quality service by meeting the expectations of its stakeholders.

The year 2022 started with a piece of wonderful news for DMM as Senior Lecturer Ms. Shanika Wijenayake was awarded the ‘Outstanding Early Career Researcher in the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies at the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony 2021. She has also been awarded University Senate Awards in the year 2021 for the scholarly publications in indexed journals.  We as the DMM would like to congratulate Ms. Wijenayake for her massive achievement and wish for many more successful accomplishments ahead.

The Department of Marketing Management of the University of Kelaniya has taken a number of initiatives to inculcate the research culture among the undergraduates and the International Student Research Conference in Marketing is one of the outcomes of these initiatives. Subsequently, the 6th International Student Research Conference in Marketing (ISRCM) was held virtually on 21st December 2021 under the theme of “Marketing in New Normal: Embracing Change and Transformation in Industry 4.0”.

Department of Marketing Management - University of Kelaniya, conferred the first batch of Certified Professional Marketing Graduates (CPMG) on 07th December 2021 at Bandaranayake Memorial International Convention Hall (BMICH). CPMG is the only industry-academia accredited title awarded to recognize outstanding graduates. The title of CPMG comprises three qualifications targeting the development of soft skills, IT skills, and theoretical knowledge of marketing management of the undergraduates of DMM. Soft skills are developed through the Diploma in People Skills programme, Diploma in Enterprise Resource Planning is targeted at developing the IT skills, and the Bachelor of Management (Special) Degree in Marketing is tailor-made to develop the subject-related knowledge of the graduates.

The Department of Marketing Management (DMM), University of Kelaniya - Sri Lanka, signed an MoU with Ogilvy Digital on 26th November 2021 at the University of Kelaniya. Ogilvy Digital gets on board as the “Strategic Knowledge Partner for Digital Marketing”. for the Degree programmes offered by DMM. With this collaboration, Ogilvy Digital (Pvt) Ltd now joins hands as one of the Strategic Partners for “Certified Professional Marketing Graduates (CPMG)” as well.

Senior lecturer Ms. Shanika Wijenayake, Department of Marketing Management received a senate award on 26th November 2021. This award is offered to appreciate the researchers of the University of Kelaniya who publish their scholarly works in internationally recognized journals. Ms. Wijenayake received the senate award for her publication ‘Leaving in Mascot of Silence: Organizational Determinants of Employee Turnover Intentions in Mediating and Moderating Roles of Quiescent Silence and Coworker Support in a Russian Context’ published in the Journal of Management and Business Administration. Central Europe, Sciendo which is a SCOPUS indexed journal with a cite score of 1.2.

International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI) 2021 organized by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka proudly presented its Technical Forum which is focused on exploring the risks and challenges faced by different industries in the face of new normal and then the next normal conditions with the unexpected catastrophic risks emanated through the Covid 19 pandemic situation. Accordingly, the Department of Marketing Management conducted the technical forum on the theme of “MOVING BEYOND PANDEMIC: MARKETING IN DIGITAL ERA”.

Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, and Taylor’s University Malaysia proudly presents the ICAM4-BLM2: An international joint e-conference on 11th September 2021 under the theme “Broadening the Horizons of Business: Going beyond Normal” ICAM4-BLM2 has created a platform for the national and international scholarly community to share their research findings, expertise and collaborate with renowned scholars. Over 1100 abstracts were received and over 600 accepted abstracts will be presented at the conference. Full papers of the accepted abstracts will be published in high ranked, peer-reviewed journals

The Inauguration Ceremony of Higher Diploma in Marketing for the year 2021/22 was held on 31st of July 2021, marking another very important day in the calendar of the Department of Marketing Management of the University of Kelaniya. The inauguration ceremony was commemorated at the university premises. The program was enlightened by the presence of many honorable invitees and dignitaries, including the Head of the Department of Marketing Management, Prof. Ravi Dissanayake, Vice-Chancellor, Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, Dr. P N D Fernando, Director of Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC, Mr. Roshan Tissaaratchy as the keynote Speaker and other honorable Lecturers and guests. 

Prof. Ravi Dissanayake marked the beginning with the welcome speech followed with the special message and blessings added by the Vice-Chancellor Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, the speech by the guest of the ceremony Dr. P. N. D. Fernando, the Dean of Faculty of Commerce and Management studies and then the addressing by the keynote speaker Mr. Roshan Tissaaratchy. 

This diploma was commenced in 2009 and continued consecutively by making the candidates industry-ready, covering the essentials of marketing and other related aspects, providing sound theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to be a quality Marketer conducted by a superlative Lecturer panel. And also, it is aligning with the guidelines of the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework. 

The Department of Marketing Management is a well-known university for quality and comprehensive higher education and ensures it by abiding with ISO 9001: 2015 quality certification. Another giant leap by the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya

DMM proudly announces the launch of a new online Diploma in Enterprise Resources Planning (DERP) for external students. Ms. Shanika Wijenayake, Senior Lecturer of DMM and Coordinator of DERP, says that the DERP is Sri Lanka’s first industry-based Diploma in ERP offered by a state university in Sri Lanka. “We introduced the DERP to our internal students in 2016 with the expectation of making them readily employable with the right toolset and the right mindset required by any organization operated via integrated systems”. Today, the world is at a critical juncture in every aspect, including health, economy, and environmental sustainability. As all of us experienced, during the past year, the whole world fought so hard merely to survive, and Information & Communication Technology was one of the forces that kept the wheels turning.
