The Department of Marketing Management (DMM), University of Kelaniya - Sri Lanka, signed an MoU with the Asia Pacific Institute of Digital Marketing - APIDM  on 09th  February 2022 at the University of Kelaniya. APIDM gets on board as the “Digital Insight Partner” of the DMM with this MoU. The ultimate purpose of the MoU is to publish the Digital Outlook Sri Lanka as a collaborative research project published annually. This effort serves readers to obtain an insightful piece of information about the digital behavior of Sri Lanka as an authentic research source.

The Future Marketers Association (FMA) of the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya reached another milestone in the University Social Responsibility Project (USR Project) on the 2nd of February 2022 under the theme of “Future Aspire 2022”. The annual USR Project aims at fulfilling the duties towards the society as socially responsible undergraduates and subsequently, in each year a needy school is chosen to uplift its quality of education. However, due to the opportunities created by the Covid-19 pandemic, the FMA was able to conduct this year’s USR Project by not only gathering students of one school but virtually gathering Advanced Level Commerce students of 25 schools covering all the 25 districts in Sri Lanka.

The Future Marketers Association of the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya executes sustainable initiatives to enhance the quality of education under the University Social Responsibility Project each year. In accordance with that objective, an inter-school quiz competition was conducted virtually on the 1st of February 2022 among 125 Advanced Level Commerce Students representing 25 schools in all 25 districts in Sri Lanka. The students were able to encounter a novel experience by facing a virtual quiz competition in the scope of business knowledge via Kahoot rather than facing a traditional paper-based quiz competition. Onali Ama Kumarasena of Bandarawela Central College and Punsara Divyanjalee of Pinnawala Central College were the winners of the competition. In order to provide equal opportunities to follow higher education,  the winners and the participants of the quiz competition were awarded scholarships to follow the Higher Diploma in Marketing offered by the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya

Prof. Renuka Herath, Department of Marketing Management (DMM) , University of Kelaniya received a senate award on 26th January 2022 at the University of Kelaniya. This award is offered to appreciate the academics who publish their scholarly works in internationally recognized journals. Prof. Herath received the Senate Award for her publication ‘E-Learning Capability Maturity During Covid 19 Pandemic – A Qualitative Approach’ published in the journal of ‘Quality Access to Success’ which is a SCOPUS indexed journal.

The inauguration ceremony of the Higher Diploma in Marketing Management (2021/22) offered by the Department of Marketing Management (DMM) was successfully held on the 09th of January 2022 via the zoom platform. The DMM has been offering this Diploma programme since 2009 and continued successively by making the candidates industry-ready and covering sound theoretical and practical knowledge. DMM is well known for the quality and rigor of its programmes which are proven through ISO 9001: 2015 quality certification. It also adds quality by being one of the prominent departments in the University of Kelaniya and the only SAP university alliance in Sri Lanka, providing the best knowledge and opportunities to the students.

The Department of Marketing Management (DMM), University of Kelaniya - Sri Lanka was recertified with the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) for another three years with effect from 2021.DMM was first ISO 9001:2008 QMS certified in 2014 and upgraded to the new standard in 2017. This is the first academic department of the university system to obtain ISO certification and DMM is successfully continuing its quality standards for eight (08) consecutive years which ensures the delivery of quality service by meeting the expectations of its stakeholders.

The year 2022 started with a piece of wonderful news for DMM as Senior Lecturer Ms. Shanika Wijenayake was awarded the ‘Outstanding Early Career Researcher in the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies at the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony 2021. She has also been awarded University Senate Awards in the year 2021 for the scholarly publications in indexed journals.  We as the DMM would like to congratulate Ms. Wijenayake for her massive achievement and wish for many more successful accomplishments ahead.

The Department of Marketing Management of the University of Kelaniya has taken a number of initiatives to inculcate the research culture among the undergraduates and the International Student Research Conference in Marketing is one of the outcomes of these initiatives. Subsequently, the 6th International Student Research Conference in Marketing (ISRCM) was held virtually on 21st December 2021 under the theme of “Marketing in New Normal: Embracing Change and Transformation in Industry 4.0”.

Department of Marketing Management - University of Kelaniya, conferred the first batch of Certified Professional Marketing Graduates (CPMG) on 07th December 2021 at Bandaranayake Memorial International Convention Hall (BMICH). CPMG is the only industry-academia accredited title awarded to recognize outstanding graduates. The title of CPMG comprises three qualifications targeting the development of soft skills, IT skills, and theoretical knowledge of marketing management of the undergraduates of DMM. Soft skills are developed through the Diploma in People Skills programme, Diploma in Enterprise Resource Planning is targeted at developing the IT skills, and the Bachelor of Management (Special) Degree in Marketing is tailor-made to develop the subject-related knowledge of the graduates.

Ogilvy Digital gets on board as the “Strategic Knowledge Partner for Digital Marketing”. for the Degree programmes offered by DMM. With this collaboration, Ogilvy Digital (Pvt) Ltd now joins hands as one of the Strategic Partners for “Certified Professional Marketing Graduates (CPMG)” as well.

Senior lecturer Ms. Shanika Wijenayake, Department of Marketing Management received a senate award on 26th November 2021. This award is offered to appreciate the researchers of the University of Kelaniya who publish their scholarly works in internationally recognized journals. Ms. Wijenayake received the senate award for her publication ‘Leaving in Mascot of Silence: Organizational Determinants of Employee Turnover Intentions in Mediating and Moderating Roles of Quiescent Silence and Coworker Support in a Russian Context’ published in the Journal of Management and Business Administration. Central Europe, Sciendo which is a SCOPUS indexed journal with a cite score of 1.2.

International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI) 2021 organized by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka proudly presented its Technical Forum which is focused on exploring the risks and challenges faced by different industries in the face of new normal and then the next normal conditions with the unexpected catastrophic risks emanated through the Covid 19 pandemic situation. Accordingly, the Department of Marketing Management conducted the technical forum on the theme of “MOVING BEYOND PANDEMIC: MARKETING IN DIGITAL ERA”.
