Professor Ravi Dissanayake attached to the Department of Marketing Management of the University of Kelaniya was appointed as the new director of the Staff Development Centre of the University of Kelaniya from 1st of November 2023 for three-year tenure. Professor Dissanayake was the founding coordinator of the Staff Development Unit of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies (FCMS) of the University of Kelaniya and he served as a resource person to Staff Development Activities of the University of Kelaniya

15th of November 2023 heralded a new beginning at the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya with Dr Sugeeth Patabendige taking over as the new head of the department. 

Dr Patabendige counts close to two decades in academia both as an educator and as an administrator. He is well-regarded for his innovative and inspirational teaching. Having been recognised globally by winning several accolades such as the CIMA Tutor of the Year 2009 and CIMA Star 2014 awards. As an administrator, he functioned as the founding director of the Center for International Relations at the University of Kelaniya, Coordinator of the World Bank Quality and Innovation Grant and the ERP/SAP Learning Hub at the Department of Marketing Management of the University of Kelaniya.

The 14th inauguration ceremony of the Higher Diploma in Marketing was successfully held on 22nd October 2023 at the Auditorium of Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. As a result of realizing its social responsibility, the Department of Marketing Management has introduced this program to external students. The Department of Marketing Management has figured out the potential emerging trends in the marketing profession and advancing needs of the stakeholders. The Higher Diploma in Marketing is a qualification that emerged as a result of fulfilling the industry and academic needs.

The Inaugural Ceremony for the 8th intake of the Master of Business Management in Marketing program was held on October 7th, 2023 at the Water's Edge Hotel. Head of the Department, Prof. Renuka Herath, addressed the gathering and stated that,  As a responsible national University in Sri Lanka, Department of Marketing Management - UoK has been at the forefront of numerous advancements in the country's higher education industry and has made significant contributions to its economic development.

The Department of Marketing Management (DMM) of the University of Kelaniya recognizes the importance of developing behavioral attributes in grooming the soft skills of its undergraduates to make them more employable. As part of many initiatives, level two of the systematically developed Diploma in People Skills covers the key pillars of collaboration, leadership, and innovation. The inauguration event was graced by the team Nestle Lanka and distinguished individuals of the University including the Head of the Department of Marketing Management Prof. Renuka Herath, Coordinator of DPS Program,  Dr. Ajith Medis, Senior Lecturer Thilina DK, and Lecturer Ms. Nilakshi Subasinghe.

As part of many initiatives, level two of the systematically developed Diploma in People Skills covering the key pillars of collaboration, leadership, and innovation was inaugurated on the 15th of September, 2023, at the Unilever Sri Lanka Head Office.

The Future Marketers Association of the University of Kelaniya successfully concluded its flagship event, Future Aspire '23, aimed at uplifting the education of advanced-level students and motivating them to pursue higher education. The event, held in three phases, featured a quiz series, a case study competition, and a presentation series, culminating in a grand award ceremony on May 19th, 2023. Future Aspire '23, considered one of the biggest events organized by the Future Marketers Association, brought together students from 100 schools across Sri Lanka with 17 finalist schools competing for the prestigious award.

Prof. Bandara Wanninayake was appointed as the New Head of the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya. The appointment letter was handed over to the Head by the Vice-chancellor, Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, on 22nd of December 2022 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. Prof. Bandara Wanninayake is a Professor in Marketing attached to the Department of Marketing Management. He holds a Ph.D. from Tomas Bata University, Czech Republic.  He is known in the industry as a veteran researcher, corporate consultant, and exceptional academic.

The Department of Marketing Management of University of Kelaniya has taken many initiatives to bridge the gap between the industry and academia. As a part of the process, on 25th of November 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Department of Marketing Management of University of Kelaniya and Unilever Sri Lanka to nurture the undergraduates while making them industry ready. As a Strategic Partner, Unilever Sri Lanka will guide and collaboratively work with the undergraduates who are following Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Marketing degree and Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Digital Marketing degree.
