In Conquest of a Research Driven Culture

Stimulating a research driven culture is one of the prime concerns in Universities at present. Thus the department of Commerce and Financial Management, at the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies organized the 1st Student Research Symposium to stimulate a research culture among the undergraduates.

The main objective of the student Symposium – 2014 is to offer a platform for discussion and exchange of ideas among students from different fields of commerce and management. Furthermore, the symposium focused on following objectives as well.

  • Promoting and educating the value of research for academic and professional development.
  • Exchanging results and experiences in commerce and management.
  • Identifying challenging research problems for the field, as well as promising research outlets.
  • Strengthening the vision and understanding of the upcoming trends in management.

The chief guest for the symposium was Dr. D.M Semasinghe, the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. Further, the key note speakers were Professor. Udith K. Jayasinghe-Mudalige, Professor (Chair) – Dept. of Agribusiness Management, Director – Staff Development Center, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and Dr. Godwin Kodituwakku, Chairman Institute for Research and Development, Battaramulla. (Former Director (Research & Development) & Deputy Director General (research and Planning) National Institute of Education – Maharagama). Moreover, the financial assistance was given by, The Institute of Certified Management Accountants (CMA) of Sri Lanka and Strategy College of Business.
