This course module is designed to develop an awareness of      the range, scope and complexity of the issues and problems related to the innovation and new product development. Also to teach the basic skills necessary to construct a technology strategy for a firm and develop an understanding of the state of art of the strategic management of technology and innovation

By the end of this course unit students should be able to:
  • define technology and innovation terminology
  • describe the importance of innovation and technology for a business firm
  • discuss the types and characteristics of new products and service products and how they integrate with the technological expertise of the firm
  • analyze the importance of strategic value of patents, trade secrets and licenses.
  • apply the key aspects of the technology strategy within an organization

Course Content :

Introduction to technology and innovation, linkage of business strategy to the technology strategy, strategic technology road mapping and platform management, co-competencies competitor assessment, technology transferring patent and intellectual property, technology strategy development, development strategy and strategic portfolio management, service industry innovation
