This course module is designed to provide basic knowledge on how principles of finance with emphasize on new trends emerging in the field.

By the end of this course unit students should be able to:

  • Explain goals and functions of financial management
  • Explain the instruments and functions of financial market in Sri Lanka
  • Analyze financial statements and make comments on them
  • Compute intrinsic values of bonds and shares
  • Describe the relationship between risk and return
  • Calculate cost of capital
  • Describe working capital management and its application
  • Apply Financial Management tools for financial decisions

Course Content :

Nature of Financial Management, Financial Market in Sri Lanka, Financial Statement Analysis, Time value of money, Valuation of Bonds and Shares, Risk and Return, Capital Budgeting Decision, Cost of Capital, Capital Structure, Dividend policy, Working Capital Management.

Method of Teaching & Learning:

Lectures, Class room discussions, Workshops etc.

Scheme of Evaluation:

Assignments, Presentations mid-term tests and End semester examination. The weights given to each component of the evaluation method is announced at the commencement of the course unit.
