Aim                                                : To provide knowledge on strategic management process as required by the degree to make students understand about the strategic concerns of managing modern organizations for long term survival and growth while addressing contemporary strategic issues.

Learning outcomes                       : On successful completion of the course unit, students will be able to:

  • identify the components of crafting strategies within highly competitive and turbulent  environment
  • describe and explain the strategic management process
  • Analyse environmental forces and decide the appropriate course of actions
  • apply acquired knowledge in developing corporate business plan

Course Content                            : Introduction; introducing strategy, strategic position, the environment. Types of strategies. Strategic management process; environment analysis, organisational analysis, assessing capabilities, deciding strategic course of actions, strategic plan. Business level strategy; competitive strategy in hypercompetitive conditions. Corporate level and international level strategy.; directions and methods of development, strategy into action. Organizing success; enabling success. Managing strategic change; strategic review, evaluation and control. Challenges and trends in strategic management

‘The 2nd National Summit on People Management 2017′ (NSPM 2017) organised by the Department of Human Resource Management of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was successfully conducted on the 12th of December 2017 at the Kingsbury, Colombo. The theme this time was ‘‘Peopling for Innovation’ that discussed particularly HRD issues at different performance contexts: corporates; industry; and national level. The specialty of this summit was that it congregated stakeholders from the academia, practice, policy-making process and postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
