Aim                                         : To; (i) share the strategic HRM perspectives with the students to prepare them for modern business environment, (ii) to train students to make strategic HR decisions for long term survival of organizations, (iii) to address complex strategic issues and art of gaining and retaining strategic advantage in the turbulent business environment

Learning Outcomes               : At the end of this course unit students should be able to;

 

  • identify and describe  the key concepts in Strategic Human Resources Management (SHRM)
  • explain how a strategic fit between HR strategies and the business strategies can be achieved
  • Analyze the needs of strategic HRM and propose strategic HRM interventions in fulfilling the organizational requirements

 

Course Content                    : Introduction of SHRM; definitions, and related concepts. Process of SHRM. Competitive advantage through SHRM. Integration of organisational strategy and human resource strategy. Human Resource scorecards. Preparing strategic HRM action plan, case studies in strategic SHRM, studying the practices of SHRM by Sri Lankan organisations.

‘The 2nd National Summit on People Management 2017′ (NSPM 2017) organised by the Department of Human Resource Management of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was successfully conducted on the 12th of December 2017 at the Kingsbury, Colombo. The theme this time was ‘‘Peopling for Innovation’ that discussed particularly HRD issues at different performance contexts: corporates; industry; and national level. The specialty of this summit was that it congregated stakeholders from the academia, practice, policy-making process and postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
