Aim                                         : To; (1) provide the students with an exposure to link with the industry, learn from practitioners, and to arouse them for being concerned about contemporary happening is the HRM field; (ii) to develop students soft skills demanded by the practitioners.

Learning Outcomes             : On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to:

  • identify and describe the timely issues in HRM and how organisations make efforts to resolve them.
  • explain the causalities among local HR issues and the organisational and macro environments
  • propose solutions to resolve human resource management problems using multiple perspectives.


Course Content                    : Introduction; HRM in Sri Lankan organisations, private and public sector approaches to HRM. Local HRM practices. Soft and hard skills needed for HRM students. Demand for and supply of HRM graduates in Sri Lanka. Challenges to HRM fields in Sri Lanka .

and Learning : Workshops and gust lectures, Case Studies, Field Visits, Video presentations,  Independent study, Student symposia

 

Assessment : Assignments, Presentations, End-semester examination, Skill practice tests

‘The 2nd National Summit on People Management 2017′ (NSPM 2017) organised by the Department of Human Resource Management of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was successfully conducted on the 12th of December 2017 at the Kingsbury, Colombo. The theme this time was ‘‘Peopling for Innovation’ that discussed particularly HRD issues at different performance contexts: corporates; industry; and national level. The specialty of this summit was that it congregated stakeholders from the academia, practice, policy-making process and postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
