Aim                                                     : To provide the students with up-to-date knowledge on organisational change, Organizational Development (OD), OD interventions and knowledge on how to lead and manage a change programme

Learning Outcomes                           : On completion of the dissertation student will be        able to,

 

  • recognize that change can be triggered from environment analyse change situations in order to choose appropriate methods of managing and implementing change.
  • explain hard systems model of change as representative of hard systems methodologies of change.
  • describe theories of organizational Development
  • explain the process of organizational Development as a generalized example of soft systems of change.
  • explain how HR professionals can play to integrate OD as part of their work.
  • Explain the knowledge gained relating to leading and managing change.

Course Content                                 : Political, economic, technological and socio - cultural factors influencing organizational change and Development; situations forcing change based on problems varying in complexity;  process of hard systems model of change;   theories of OD: Lewin's change model, action research model, the positive model; process of Organizational Development;  OD interventions: human process Interventions, techno-structural interventions, human resource management interventions, strategic change interventions;  activities contributing to change Management: Motivating change, creating a vision, Developing political support, managing transition, sustaining Momentum; how HR and OD can work together.

‘The 2nd National Summit on People Management 2017′ (NSPM 2017) organised by the Department of Human Resource Management of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was successfully conducted on the 12th of December 2017 at the Kingsbury, Colombo. The theme this time was ‘‘Peopling for Innovation’ that discussed particularly HRD issues at different performance contexts: corporates; industry; and national level. The specialty of this summit was that it congregated stakeholders from the academia, practice, policy-making process and postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
