Aim                                         : To; (i) provide an awareness and knowledge of the different aspects and facets of ICT in organizations today; (ii) enable students to know how the different systems fit together for alternative managerial decision making purposes.

Learning Outcomes               : On completion of this course unit, students should be able to;

  • identify the importance of Information Systems (IS) for today’s Business and Management.
  • describe and explain how a manager can use Information Systems to create competitive advantage in the turbulent business environment.
  • to describe, explain and analytically show how to optimize firm's returns on Information Systems investments.

Course Content                     : Introduction; define and describe the terms. Nature of Information Systems (IS); levels and alternative ISs. Management information systems; features, importance, uses, links with other ISs. How ISs are used in global business today. Global e- business. Ethical and social issues in IS. Achieving operational excellence and customer intimacy; enterprise applications, securing IS. e-Commerce; digital markets, digital goods, managing knowledge, enhancing decision making, hands on experience in using MIS.

‘The 2nd National Summit on People Management 2017′ (NSPM 2017) organised by the Department of Human Resource Management of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was successfully conducted on the 12th of December 2017 at the Kingsbury, Colombo. The theme this time was ‘‘Peopling for Innovation’ that discussed particularly HRD issues at different performance contexts: corporates; industry; and national level. The specialty of this summit was that it congregated stakeholders from the academia, practice, policy-making process and postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
