Aim                                                     : To; (1) provide an overview of the basic concepts and models of labour economics, (2) develop students’ ability to understand the behaviours and changers of labour markets, wages, employment, unions, and government regulations.

Learning Outcomes                           : At the end of this course unit, students should be able to;

  • demonstrate  a sound understanding of  theories of demand for and supply of labour and its applications
  • understand   the main determinants   affecting  to the relationship between    employers    and   employees in  the labour market, wages , human capital, unions, employment,  and  government
  • describe and analyze labour  economic  theories  and  its’  implications graphically and theoretically      in  the  field  of  human  resource management
  • apply theoretical knowledge of labour economics to analyze and find solutions in the real context.

Course Content                                 : Nature and scope of labour economics. Perspectives of labour economics. labour supply and demand in the short run and in the long run. Investing in human capital. Wage determination and allocation of Labour. trade unions and collective bargaining. economic impact of unions. personal distributions of earnings. labour productivity.
