Aims:

On completion of this course unit, students should be able to,

  • Understand the importance & legal background of Occupational Health & Safety and Employee Welfare in an organization.
  • Acquire essential knowledge pertaining to the field of Occupational Health & Safety and Employee Welfare, adequate for a HR managerial position.
  • Minimize & promote positive health & safety culture in practice.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course unit, the student should able to,

  • Understand the importance & legal background of Occupational Health & Safety and Employee Welfare in an organization.
  • Acquire essential knowledge pertaining to the field of Occupational Health & Safety and Employee Welfare, adequate for a HR managerial position.
  • Minimize & promote positive health & safety culture in practice.

Course Contents:

Introduction, Historical development & legislation, Occupational Health & Safety – Factories Ordinance, Accidents & accident prevention, Workers compensation laws, Occupational Diseases, Stress on the job, Absenteeism, H & S programs and strategies for improving H & S, An introduction to implementing good house keeping – through 5s, Safety Audit, First Aid, Employee welfare and social security.

Method of Teaching and Learning:

Lecturers, Discussions, Group Work, Assignments, Audio and Video Techniques.

Assessment:

Course unit is evaluated by; Examinations, Presentations, Assignments

The theme this time was ‘‘Peopling for Innovation’ that discussed particularly HRD issues at different performance contexts: corporates; industry; and national level. The specialty of this summit was that it congregated stakeholders from the academia, practice, policy-making process and postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
