Aim:

To;

  • provide the basic knowledge regarding the nature, scope, importance, and the content of human resource management;
  • develop student skills, attitudes and emotions required to pursue an HRM degree and to specialize in an HR career.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course unit, the student should able to,

  • identify and describe the core knowledge and key concepts in HRM
  • describe and explain  various HRM perspectives, evolution of HRM and the different levels analysis of HRM
  • identify, describe and explain the contemporary challenges of human resource management and the challenges to HRM students
  • analyze student’s own profile in order to develop their own career paths

Content:

Core knowledge of human resource management; definitions, scope, functions and importance of human resource management (HRM). Key concepts in HRM; generational gap, global talents, culture and HRM, level of analysis in HRM research and studies. Evolution of HRM; alternate paradigms, perspectives and models of HRM. Major roles of HRM. Challenges to HRM. Nature of HRM career; prospects, requirements, challenges to HRM students, basic skills needed by HRM students. Planning an HR career; self-awareness, career awareness, matching between person and career, strategic career planning.

Method of Teaching and Learning:

Lectures, Discussion, Assignments, Tutorials, Role plays, Workshops

Assessment:

End-semester examination, Assignments, Presentations, Career Planning skills evaluation test

The theme this time was ‘‘Peopling for Innovation’ that discussed particularly HRD issues at different performance contexts: corporates; industry; and national level.
