It gives me an immense pleasure for giving a message as the first coordinator to the Doctor of Business Administration of the University of Kelaniya. I have been in the field of academia for about 20 years and have been the coordinator of the fee levying courses offered by the Department of Marketing Management. I have seen the demand from the industry towards acquiring and exploring in academic after years of experience in the field has been taking an upward trend in the past decade. New classes of practitioners are being emerged as the flooding of professional courses offered by the state as well as private universities in Sri Lanka. The top executives who possess a Master or equivalent qualification increasingly seek for progressing through the next level of educational qualification, i.e. Doctorate. However majority of them do not want to peruse a highly academic research oriented Doctorates and recognizing the demand, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies introduced Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) to serve this special crowd. It is evident from the number of inquiries that we have received soon after the promotions have started.
DBA has been structured to include course work and a research component and the students are required to complete the course work within the first year. The research work will run for two years followed by a VIVA VOCE examination. I cordially invite the visionary practitioners in Sri Lanka who has envisioned the path towards peak via building a sound academic qualification to explore the opportunity with DBA, University of Kelaniya. I conclude the message by citing a statement coined by Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. You are invited to change the future of Sri Lankan business world by laying a sound base with DBA.
